Homeowner & Renter Assistance
Homeowner Assistance is a payment from the
State of California for a portion of the property taxes you paid
directly. Renter Assistance is a payment from the State for a
portion of the property taxes you paid indirectly as part of
your rent. To qualify you must:
• Have a total household income of $35,251
or less in 2000
• Be either blind, disabled, or 62 years of
age or older
• Be a United States citizen, a designated
alien or qualified alien

Property Tax Exclusion
Senior citizens 55 years of age or older
(or those who are severely and permanently disabled), can buy a
residence of equal or lesser value than their existing home and
transfer their current taxable value to their new property. It
allows the transfer of the base-year value of their existing
home to a newly purchased or constructed home within the State
of California.

Property Tax Postponement
Who is eligible? California residents who:
• Are 62 years of age or older by December
31st or
• Are blind or disabled at the time of
filing (for a continuous period of at least one year)
• Had a total household income for the
prior year of $24,000 or less ($34,000 for those who filed and
qualified for tax postponement in 1983)
• Have a 20% equity in their home at the
time of filing
• Have owned and occupied their home as of
December 31st

Supplemental Taxes
Supplemental taxes are eligible for the
same property tax assistance as annual taxes. The State of
California administers programs that provide property tax
assistance and postponement of property taxes to qualified
homeowners and renters who are blind, disabled, or 62 years of
age or older.
